When we finally got motivated to completely redesign our website, we really struggled with what we wanted to do. We had created new design several years ago that was primarily greyscale, which would allow us to make sparse use of color to really highlight important items so that they would easily catch the attention of our visitors. But we scrapped that idea.
Since our initials are LSD, which is a mind altering drug that was very popular in the 1960s, we seriously considered a 1960s theme, using imagery and colors made popular during the Summer of Love. We scrapped that idea too because that theme was going to end up being way too busy and bright.
So we went back to our original logo and decided to modernize it. Since we chose various shades of neutral browns with a black gradient for the background, we decided on a more iconic logo. We felt that a more iconic logo brings us up to date with the trends in online and offline media and branding. We found a new piece of clipart. After removing the detail, we re-colored it with a diagonal (upper left to bottom right) gradient, from a golden brown to an earthy brown. We omitted the company name from the logo so that we can use it in online and offline branding as well as allowing us to place our company name wherever it makes more impact on promotional materials. This also allows us to easily adapt our logo to different color schemes if we decide to change our website’s color palette or for branding other sites we might create for our business.
